Welcome, G.

It’s been a little quiet here on the blog, but we’ve been busy behind the scenes. We welcomed our second kiddo! “G” was born in mid August, so we’ve been adjusting to a family of four for the past seven weeks.

G’s birth was actually almost identical to E’s, down to the time. I was induced this pregnancy as well right at 40 weeks. I could have gone longer, but with it being August, I was over being pregnant in the heat of summer.

We arrived at the hospital around 8AM after dropping E off at daycare. I got checked in and headed up to our room. As soon as we walked into our L&D room, we gave our nurse the low-down of how my last induction went and to expect a baby before the end of her shift that day. We were right!

I was only dilated to 1.5cm upon arrival, so pitocin was started around 10AM. I asked for mobile monitors so I could be up walking around and bouncing on the labor ball (anything to speed things up!). We turned on HGTV and then just kind of waited. I asked the nurse around 12:30PM when I would be checked next and when it was possible to get my water broke. After my water broke with my first induction, things happened pretty quickly so I was anxious just to get it going this time too. Just 30 minutes later, the nurse and resident doctor came back and broke my water. Yay! Let’s get the show on the road. And we did.

My contractions really started kicking in and I labored through them as long as possible before asking for an epidural, but I didn’t want to get past the point of no return. So just before 3PM, I waved my white flag and asked for the epidural. It took the anesthesiologist a little bit to administer, but we got it in and I soon felt relief. However, that changed maybe an hour or later because the epidural basically stopped working. I could feel every. single. contraction. Major props to ladies who go drug-free because no thank you. We couldn’t figure out why the epidural wasn’t working any more and we were going to call to get it looked at but there wasn’t time. However, it was time to give birth. I had progressed from 6cm to 10cm within 30 minutes, which is what I had felt every bit of.

My doctor wasn’t at the hospital yet, but it was go time. The little guy started “freaking out” because his head was being squished in the birth canal and he was ready to make his appearance. I was on oxygen at that point and honestly was just waiting. Though the staff in the room was prepared to deliver me if needed, you could tell they really were not wanting to. My doctor literally came running in and put her scrubs on as fast as she could. After two pushes, G was born at 5:14PM weighing in at 5pounds, 14 ounces. Apparently my kids have a thing with numbers – weight and time of birth being the same.

Welcome to the world, G. We’re excited to have you 🙂
