All Aboard to the Transportation Museum

This past weekend we checked out the National Museum of Transportation here in St. Louis for the first time while my parents were in town visiting. It’s been on our St. Louis to-do list for a couple years now. Even though the weather was a bit cooler, we all had a great time. We arrived right when it opened and there weren’t many people there but by the time we left, there was a decent crowd. We were there for two hours and could have easily spent more time there and kept exploring.

There are SO many trains to see, and you can even walk inside a handful of them. The train yard allows you explore various types of trains and then the depot area (as I’m calling it) has more history. Some areas and train cars are available for privates parties, too. There’s also a couple buildings dedicated to cars, an old boat and a couple planes on the property. A Cadillac exhibit had just opened in the main building.

The winter hours were still going on, so not everything was open (train rides, visitor’s center), but we ended up getting a year membership so we will definitely be coming back and taking advantage of the summer activities. Another area we didn’t get to check out that I will need to add for next time is the Creation Station. It’s looks like a cool STEAM related arts and crafts room. I would definitely recommend families or anyone who likes transportation to check out the museum!
