Abandoned Train Car

There’s this old, abandoned, decomposing train car in my hometown that has been parked in its spot for my entire life. Right next to it is the original brick train depot that is also falling apart. The pair has always intrigued me, but for some reason I’ve never stopped to check them out. Well, actually, it’s privately owned and people aren’t suppose to trespass. The condition of the train car also makes it unsafe to be in. However, that didn’t stop me this time.

The train car and depot were privately purchased by a local couple with the original intention of transforming them into a restaurant and B&B. Clearly, that plan never came to fruition and the two structures were left to rot away. We think the car is from the 1930s or 1940s and that the depot was completed around the same time the tracks were finished in the 1870s.

So we finally decided to stop and do a bit of exploring while back home for Easter weekend. I’m so glad we did! It’s sad to see the current state of the railcar – the molding details, stained glass windows and paint colors were so pretty. The floor in the main area was falling in and the car is past the point of any type of repair. I would have loved to see it in its original state.
