A year ago, I challenged myself to not shop for any clothes, shoes or accessories for one year and today it’s finally over.
To be honest, it really wasn’t that hard. Sure, I complained at times about how I really wanted ____ (insert anything here) but when I thought about how it’s a want and not a need, the feelings went away after a short while. I don’t know if I maximized my wardrobe like I thought I would, but I definitely wore my favorite pieces plenty of times. I actually went through my closet more times in the last year than I usual do because I quickly figured out what I wanted/needed to keep and what I didn’t. Did I save money? Yes, but not really. The money I saved from not shopping was shifted and used for things like furniture or plane tickets.
So over the next year, I’m going to concentrate on buying staple items that I know I will get repeated wear out of. I’m going to try really hard to overcome the idea that I can’t spend more than $40 on a pair of jeans or boots. I want to invest in pieces that are going to last.
